Why this capsule wardrobe works

Light denim and light blue are such nice colors for spring, they look light and fresh. A practical, warm jacket is a good thing to bring when you don’t know which weather to expect.

I only chose two pairs of shoes, but if I were traveling, I would definitely bring 3 pairs.

You don’t have to follow the 1-5 rule super strict. Instead, adjust the rule to your taste and your normal everyday style.

2-week travel capsule wardrobe for summer

Color palette: Black. Denim. White. Pink.

Why this capsule wardrobe works

I love pink for the summer. But if pink is not your cup of tea, just use the same principle and replace the pink with your favorite color.

Many people make the mistake to create a capsule wardrobe that is simply too boring. Don’t fall into this trap. A holiday is a festive occasion. Injecting a bit of color is a nice remedy for this problem.

Make it fun

To make your capsule wardrobe work, just make sure you bring enough basic clothes to support your colorful pieces.

For summer, a denim jacket is always a good idea. I also added a black cardigan for those chilly evenings or air-conditioned museums.

Why this capsule wardrobe works

Creating these examples of a 2-week travel capsule wardrobe, made me realize how important it is to add some denim and some white or black clothes. Those kinds of clothes work with everything else and are the building blocks for nice outfits.

I love burgundy for autumn, grey and camel look equally stylish.

Matching colors

It’s hard to find camel pieces in the same nuance. But as you can observe in this example of a great capsule wardrobe, the camel pieces don’t need to match unless they have to be worn together.

Try on your clothes

The step where you create outfits with your chosen clothes is very important, you cannot know which clothes work together unless you try them on. Don’t skip this step. In fact, take it a step further and snap some pictures of your favorite outfits.

2-week travel capsule wardrobe for winter

Color palette: Brown. Black. Burgundy. Purple.

Why this capsule wardrobe works

I love a bit of chocolate brown for winter. It looks especially chic combined with black. For winter, you need to pack a good jacket and a couple of warm sweaters.

Inject a healthy dose of color

In this wardrobe, I also wanted to show that you can pick two different colors, in this case, purple and burgundy. As long as you have enough neutral colors, those two colors don’t need to be worn together.

Although sometimes, they create the best outfits when worn together.

More tips for creating a 2-week travel capsule wardrobe

Choose 2 basic neutral colors, for example, brown, black, grey, navy, camel, or white.

After that, choose two accent colors, for example, light blue, green, red, purple, or burgundy.

Choose around 3 items in every color, making it a total of 12 pieces. Looking back to my 4 examples, you can see that I roughly followed this principle.

Keep it casual

Consider adding a couple of denim pieces to create a travel wardrobe that is casual and comfortable. If you are interested in minimalist fashion, read my article Learn how to create a minimalist travel capsule wardrobe.

Pick the right print

If you want to include printed items in your travel capsule wardrobe, find prints that combine any of your chosen four colors.

This is how you get cohesive outfits. If navy is one of your basic colors, a skirt with a navy and white print will work great. Especially if white is your other basic color.

Pay extra attention to the jackets

The two jackets are a crucial part of your 2-week travel capsule wardrobe; they need to match pretty much all tops and all bottoms. Thus choosing jackets in your two neutral colors is a smart move.

On the other hand, a jacket is also an opportunity to inject some fun into your wardrobe; do pick an interesting texture or interesting detail. Also, consider picking a jacket in one of your accent colors.

Choose versatile clothes

There is a reason I often include cardigans and shirts in my wardrobe. These items work in many different situations and are good for creating a wide variety of outfits.

Make sure you have both casual and dressed-up pieces

To create a perfect travel wardrobe, you need to take your activities into consideration. When you go out to a fancy restaurant or attend a concert, it’s nice to have a suitable outfit.

On the other hand, many people pack too many dressed-up pieces when they go on holiday. They want to look dreamy at their dream destination. But in reality, you need practical clothes for traveling and walking around.

Make sure you’ve included both sides.
